The Theme of SPACES

Think about a space in a cultural context. Consider any space and its impact or meaning within a culture. Your focus can be as broad as looking at the impact of outer space on cultures to considering your local village or neighborhood. Develop from an artistic standpoint how you see these relationships between a space and a culture.

The event will take place in the first week of April.

  • Do I have to have a team?

Culture Y does not require that you work in a team. If you want to create your artwork independently, please select a team name anyway (though it can just be your name) to identify you.

  • When can I begin my artwork?

Since Culture Y is not a timed event, there is no specific amount of time in which you may begin your artwork, we only ask that you send in your registration by the deadline, 16th of February 2018 and send us your artwork by the deadline: 28th of March 2018.

  • I am concerned about using intellectual property/copyrighted images and sound.

There are organizations that offer copyright free material. For example, Creative Commons (https://creativecommons.org/) has a large selection of music, sound, video, and still images available for use. For more in-depth information on Creative Commons please see: http://www.copyrightsandwrongs.nen.gov.uk/licences/cc-licences. If you want to use material not available on approved websites, you must ask for permission from the publisher of the work (which is often the production company).

If you have questions regarding the use of intellectual property and/or copyrighted material, please email us at culturey2018@gmail.com or speak to us during the workshops.

  • Are there any restrictions on the contents of my artwork?

Due to venue restrictions, anything considered obscene or graphic cannot be shown. Obscenity includes but is not limited to nudity, public displays of violence or self-harm, and displays of bodily fluids.

  • If you have any questions regarding the content of your artwork, please email the question to culturey2018@gmail.com.
