Culture Y 2018 Art Show
The Culture Y 2018 Art Show showcased 4 films and 25 artworks on the theme of SPACES in a cultural context. The Art Show featured talented filmmakers and artists in the University of St Andrews community from a variety of cultural backgrounds, revealing the complexity of direction that can be followed on the theme of SPACES. The Art Show began with a judge introduction, followed by the film screening and an hour wine reception while the judges deliberated and the audience cast their ballots. This culminated in an awards ceremony, with unique Culture Y awards and Prosecco given to the winners. Judging the event was a blend of professional, academic, and student judges from a variety of background in the art and film community. They included Chris Sporson, an art gallery owner, Max McCance, a professional artist, Valeria Duca, an artist and student, Boris Bosikov, Stephanie O’Rourke, a art history professor, and Dina Irodonva, founder of the Film School at St Andrews. Artists were awarded based on adherence to theme, creativity/artisticness, and technical skill. An audience choice award was also given to give the audience a voice. The Culture Y 2018 Art Show encompassed a variety of material art mediums and film styles that helped create a dialogue with the audience on the role of SPACE in culture.
