When I looked up at the moon as a child, I imagined others far away or long ago who regarded the silver body with similar wonder. I had crept outside, my six-year-old body embraced by warm wind and cool grass. An inexplicable need drew me to gaze at the vastness of space; I felt as though I was some participant in a union under moonlight, one of many

communicants before me who looked up to the moon.
Sonder is the revelation that every person in existence has their own mosaic of vivid and profound experiences; it is my epiphany that while events like this are experienced solitarily, one's awareness of their shared experience weaves us together regardless of distance or time. From the constellation myths of the ancient Greeks and Romans to the first steps of Neil Armstrong and compatriots on the moon, space has been universal, unifying feature- the sonder- in the experience of us all.
