Humans have been settling next to bodies of water since the beginning of history. Yet the ways in which people interact with the water can differ greatly from place to place. In some locations, the water acts as a divider, a border to be crossed. In others, the water is tied with religion and tradition. And there are other places where the water simply provides a space for relaxation and recreation.

‘Water Ways’ explores how bodies of water are used in three defining places in the filmmaker’s life: New York City, Bangkok, and St Andrews. Even though these places each use the water in different ways, it should not be forgotten that all of these waters are part of the same, continuous, global body of water.
