Hey everyone! My name is Roy Zheng and I am a third-year study abroad from Canada, majoring in film theory and media production. I love traveling, photography, culture studies and politics. I enjoy exposing myself entirely to new spaces and environments. It is absolutely fascinated for me to see how does a country or a state shape by the conflicts in ideologies and history incidents. This photo of me is taken at Old Town Market, Havana, Cuba. It is perhaps the one last standing communist paradise in the world whose identity was predominately shaped by its dictator’s idiosyncrasy of Marxism. Yet spaces to me is not all about bourgeoisie’s game of power, it is reflected through the most ordinary facets of people’s lives. Families and friendships should always be given prior consideration than political orders. It is people who give spaces its significance.
