Caroline Caterini

           (Media and PR)

Hi! My name is Caroline Caterini and I work on media and PR for Culture Y. I am a third year from Washington, DC, studying Philosophy and Art History. Spaces fascinate me in the way that can emotionally and physically affect us. Vast expanses of open air can take our breath away and fill us with awe, while a quiet stream can calm and center us. Our homes, whether they are large and beautiful or small and crumbling, will always feel safe and happy. A cold, windowless tunnel can trigger unease and discomfort, while the high ceilings and large windows of a Gothic cathedral inspire wonder and enjoyment.
In this photo, I am on my way to the summit of Pike’s Peak in Colorado, which is one of the most unique and stunning places I have ever been. However, it also one of the most physically painful--I did not make the connection that 14,115 ft above sea level, despite it being August, would be below freezing, and as you can clearly see, I am less than properly dressed for that environment. It resulted in a dynamic emotional and physical experience (both very
pleasent--emotionally/visually--and very unpleasent--physically). Spaces combine their visible features, associated memories and connotations, and the surrounding environmental features to create a multifaceted and powerful experience in a way nothing else really can.
