Hey, everyone! My name is Alexandra Elsa Nicolae and I am the co-founder of Culture Y. I am a fourth year studying Film and Modern History and I come from Romania. I love to travel and explore new spaces and cultures. I believe it is fascinating to see how spaces like frontiers, borders and walls play an important role in shaping a culture or a civilization. My photo was taken meters from the East Side Gallery in Berlin, one of the few sites left commemorating the Berlin Wall. This wall dividing Berlin in two was instrumental in shaping two distinct cultures and identities (East and West German) and its fingerprint is still visible in Berlin and Germany today. Though the East Side Gallery can be seen as an artwork or a political and social statement today, I think it is also a lesson about what happens when people build walls and not bridges.
